If you have seen the skyline of Buffalo since 1969, then you have seen the former HSBC Tower, now known as “Seneca One.” At 38 stories and 529′ tall, it is the tallest building in Buffalo – an icon in the city. Yet it sat empty for many years. That will change soon.
Real estate development corporation, “Douglas Development,” lead by Douglas Jemal, purchased the 1.2 million square foot tower in 2016 and plans to have 11 floors occupied by M&T’s technology department in 2020.
According to Buffalo Rising, “Along with nearly 7,400 employees in the Buffalo area currently, M&T expected to hire 1,000 technologists over the next three to five years. ” This is in addition to the 200 residential apartments planned for the building.
The vision of Douglas Jemal, his team, and their partners at M&T is inspirational. This mixed use, live-work-play development is breathing new life into downtown and contributes to the ongoing growth of Buffalo. I look forward to the day when their work is complete and thousands of people are bustling around the area going to and from work, their apartment, or shopping. I’ve said many times before, and Im sure to say it many more times, but now is great time to be in Buffalo.
Maybe I’ll even live in the building, you’ll have to wait and see…
